The Kalmyk language classes
were conducted under the guidance of Dr.
Erdne Nikolayev (1896 -1966). The Kalmyk
script was based on classical vertical Mongol script. However, this script
never succeeded in spreading among the Kalmyks who abandoned it in 1923
and introduced the Russian Cyrillic alphabet. A recorded literature in
the Kalmyk language consists of myths, poems, philosophical and literary
works of great Buddhist Teachers, legal codes, and historical
narratives
The Epic
of Jangar is a masterpiece of Mongol classical
literature and its main story-line is the battle between good, Jangar
and his heroes and evil, the Mangus
or evil monster, and the achievement of a
life of bliss. |
